Tea: Origins, Flavors and Health Benefits

How many times do we just want to drink tea after a heavy meal, but are then bombarded with all the various tea flavors that we get lost.
Here are all the answers:

What you should always remember is that there are only four types of tea.
1) Black tea
2) Green tea
3) White tea
4) Oolong tea

All these are made from the leaves of the same plant, camellia sinensis, also known as the tea plant. Other herbal infusions such as chamomile tea, ginger tea or red tea made of rooibos leaves are disqualified as types of tea since the tea plant is not involved in their making. The difference between the four tea variations lies in the process of making them. In addition, each type of tea has another flavor and various health benefits.

1) Black Tea
The strong flavored burnt Sienna colored hot beverage is the most popular type of tea in the West. Either served with a squeeze of lemon or added milk and a cube of sugar, the cup of black tea is part of daily tea ceremonies that take place worldwide. Black tea is made of heavily oxidized camellia sinensis leaves. When served plain, it contains no calories, carbohydrates, or fats. A cup of black tea contains more caffeine than any other types of tea but less than in any cup of coffee.

2) Green Tea
The lightly oxidized tea has been popular in China, Japan and Korea for centuries. Recently, rumors on its health benefits increased its popularity in the West as well. It has been proven that drinking green tea can lower cholesterol, prevent cancer, increase metabolic rates and be helpful in variety of other conditions and illnesses. The green tea is lightly oxidized, dried, but not fermented. It is usually served plain, without sugar or milk. Since some of the green tea variants taste a bit bitter, it should be brewed in lower temperature than the boiling point.

3) White Tea
White tea is rarer and more expensive than the other types of teas mentioned above. Originated in the Fujian province of china, the white tea is made of young camellia sinensis leaves, which go through a long process of steaming or frying, inactivate fermenting and drying. Since the leaves are harvested while the buds are still covered by white hair, it is called white tea. White tea has the most delicate, sweet taste than the other types of tea. Moreover, it contains the smallest amount of caffeine and the largest amount of antioxidant that help prevent cancer.

4) Oolong Tea
The traditional Chinese tea is the common companion of Chinese foods such as dim sum and chop suey in American Chinese restaurants. The oolong tea, black dragon in Chinese, got its name after its long, dark distinguished leaves that look like wild black dragons when brewed. The unique taste of the oolong tea is achieved by a long process that includes sun drying of the camellia sinensis leaves, light oxidization, cooling and drying processes. The result is a lighter flavor than the popular black tea and stronger than the delicate green tea.

GET INSPIRED: GENE -229 LBS AND STILL LOSING!

Today we are proud to share the  inspirational story of one of our Slim Tea customers.

Gene an Indianapolis native who has lost 229 lbs without the need of surgery or diet pills. Emphasizing only on a healthy diet and exercise. Here is his story:

I've been on my journey for 3 years now. I started out at 577 lbs and in my first year I lost 185 lbs. But like all diets, I hit the hardships of life, death of friends, moving to a new home and just lack of motivation. All this caused me to gain back 90 pounds.

THINGS HAD TO CHANGE

After struggling to to maintain my weight, I said to myself, that it was enough! And I started all over again.

  • I watched what I ate
  • Started counting my calories with an  app called myfitnesspal, to help.
  • I started walking more. I have always been active, but once I got to the 577 mark. I was only walking feet, hurting and in pain. Now I walk miles. On any given day I may walk 4-6 miles, some days even 8 miles. They are not always all at once, but in a combined amount.
  • I stopped drinking soda not even diet soda or sweet tea. I even gave up my favorite iced tea from McDonalds. I had to give it up if I wanted to change.

I just give myself mini goals. I don't pre-cook or plan out my meals. Who has time for that?  I just watch what I eat and try to keep it all within the calorie goal I set for myself.

Yes, I have “Cheat Days”. Yes, I crave chocolate, I'm human!  But I have a method that works for me. If I eat my  daily allowance of 800 calories ( I set my calories for the day around 800 or less for the day.) I try to burn it by walking only (cardio) at least 1,600 calories. Some days I burn way more and some days I burn just the amount I've ate.

TAKE CONTROL

There is really no easy way or tricks. If you eat it, you are going to have burn those calories off. There is no miracle pill for weight loss . Exercise is the only thing that's going to help. How you decide to do this is up to you. Walking, playing ball with the kids, cleaning the house with music on. You have to get your body moving and sweating. "sweat is fat screaming".
There are many diet aids out there, but they are only there to support you along on your journey. You have to put in the work and not count on them alone. That was when I figured I'd give Hyleys Slim Tea try. I love drinking tea and if it's going to help me lose weight, even better! Why not integrate this in to my weight-loss journey.

I’ve heard many things about diet teas. What attracted me to Hyleys Slim Teas was that it is all natural, so I decided to give it a try. I figured I'd give it a try and I loved the taste! I don't add sweetener, I just brew it, let it steep and I drink it.

I have been drinking a cup with dinner and before bed for several weeks now as a support aid to help me reach my weight-loss goals.

Although green tea doesn’t contain as much caffeine as coffee, it’s more than enough to have positive impact

The substances composed in the green tea stimulate the hormone levels to burn fat faster. This process releases the fat into our bloodstream and transforms it to be used as energy that our body needs. That’s why when we exercise and drink green tea, the fat burn rate increases.
Some researchers also indicate that green tea drinkers burn 3-4% more calories on a daily basis than the non-tea drinkers.

TEA FOR DETOX

TEA FOR DETOX

Having a cup of tea might sound delicious, but it could also help you to get rid of all those toxins that are slowing your metabolism and affecting your liver.  Many celebrities like Giuliana Rancic or Kendall Jenner, have recently put teatox on the map, once again, claiming to drink up to twelve cups of detox tea per day as part of their healthy diet.

Herbs that help your body to cleanse

Why use tea for cleansing? Well, it turns out that some herbs can promote the livers condition and help in the detox process.

A well-balanced mix of fine black leaves, ginger root, coriander & fennel seeds, Ceylon & cinnamon and a twist of natural honey forms an ideal composition to remove unwanted toxins from the body.

Basic green and black teas are rich in antioxidantsthe secret behind boosting our natural cleansing process. Antioxidants work to reduce the oxidative stress and free radicals in our body, too much of which can cause chronic inflammation and even mutate our DNA strains, leading to cancer and other chronic diseases, says Manuel Villacorta, R.D, author of the forthcoming book, Whole Body Reboot: The Peruvian Superfoods Diet to Detoxify, Energize, and Supercharge Fat Loss.

What is TeaTox and how does it work?

Some teas have a huge role in the cleansing process, because theyre feeding our body with nutrients and antioxidants the substances needed to support the livers function.

There are two different ways of detoxing:

1.- Maintenance - You can drink 1-2 cups daily to support your liver in detoxifying and getting red of those unwanted toxins.   One is detoxing diet, where the dieter flushes their system.
2.- Intense Cleansing -  You can detoxify your system following a liquid diet supported by herbal teas. Normally lasting 1-3 days.

Teas are a wonderful aid in a fast cleansing.

Tea is not only known to purify the human cells, but it is also known to support the liver function. The liver is a key organ in our body responsible for cleansing our body. A cleansing with tea gives our liver a well-deserved break and within 1-3 days it is like hitting a reset button on our body. If losing weight is your goal, you are in luck, some people claim to lose up to 7-8 pounds in 3 days after a “teatox” diet

All-around, detox tea is awesome!

Keep your body in a great shape and well maintained by drinking a daily detox tea. Its healthy, and natural way of cleansing from all the damaging toxins of your body. Make your pick and enjoy your day with a healthy cup of tea.
